Poor Man's Cookies

Old-fashioned oatmeal drop cookies made with oats, brown and white sugar and raisins, moistened with hot water and melted margarine. Yields about 3 to 4 dozen.

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, sugars, flour and salt. Mix well. Combine soda and hot water, stir into oat mixture along with shortening and vanilla (mixture will be crumbly). Raisins can be added here plus nuts, choc. chips, etc. Roll or squeeze into walnut size balls. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool. Yield about 3-4 dozen.
