Appleless Apple Pie

A mock apple pie in which boiled Ritz crackers stand in for apples. The filling is a sweet syrup of water, sugar, and cream of tartar thickened with the crackers, baked in a double crust.

Directions

  1. Mix water, sugar and cream of tartar. Drop in one at a time 22 Ritz crackers, bring to a boil for 2 minutes, (do not stir), let cool.
  2. Make a crust and pour in filling, sprinkle with cinnamon and small pieces of utter, put top crust on and bake in 450 degree oven for 15 minutes and then lower oven to 350 and bake until brown.
  1. Mix the hot water, sugar, and cream of tartar together in a saucepan.
  2. Drop in the 22 Ritz crackers one at a time. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes (do not stir), then let cool.
  3. Make a crust and pour in the filling. Sprinkle with cinnamon and small pieces of butter, then put the top crust on.
  4. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes, then lower the oven to 350 degrees and bake until brown.
